Episode Transcription

Hi. I'm coming to you from the aftermath of Funnel Hacking Live 2022 here in Orlando, Florida. And I'm in the convention center, it's the day after the conference has ended. I always love coming to conferences because like minded people for several days talking about something we're all interested in. In this case, it's internet marketing and as you know if you've listened to my previous podcast, in the past I never saw myself as a marketer, I saw myself as an inventor, and artist, a creator. But I've also come to realize that if you don't tell people in an effective way about what you do and why it's good, nobody will every find out about it, and what's the point of that?

So this is, Funnel Hacking Live is a convention of internet entrepreneurs that come together. Most of us are users of a piece of software called ClickFunnels, which is used to create online funnels, which basically gather leads and let me follow up on leads and close sales, things like that. And it's an important aspect of doing business and it's something that I'm actually relatively new to.

So I'm sitting in the convention center and I always find it's interesting to come back to a convention center the day after the convention's ended. When everything's been torn down. It's kind of in between, in transition. It's what you'd call "liminal space." It feels like all the energy's kind of gone away, and something else is big or nothing's happening. Something's happening, they're setting up the next conference, it's no longer Funnel Hacking Live, it's starting to become, I don't know, Dev-Op's world or something. It feels very in between. If you go to YouTube and type "Backrooms" you'll find a bunch of videos people have been putting up about liminal spaces, a mythical alternate dimension where everything is just hallways, corridors, lights and nothing else. Well, maybe something else. The whole idea of "otherness" of liminal spaces, I've always found myself fascinated by that. Now it has a name, and a mythos actually, evolving around it.

Anyway, FunnleHacking Live is very intense, it always is. If you ever think that business conferences might be boring, yes, some of them are. But this one is kind of like a rave, kind of like a party. And a lot of really inspiring speakers. And one of the most amazing things is that they teach you how to sell yourself, your product, your ideas, your service, while they're selling their product, their service to you and they're very transparent about it. The guy who runs it, Russell Brunson he is an amazing marketer himself, and he's doing what I do, you know. I wrote my software Flying Logic years ago, and he's built a very successful education company around his software company, which is what I'm in the process of doing top. Which includes building my personal breadth. And I want to be transparent with you, whenever you watch this, because that's what I'm doing here. I'm doing this because, well, several reasons. I have, in my 57 years of life, I have a lot of life experience, I think I have a lot of wisdom that I want to start teaching. I want to build my personal brand as well. It's actually really great when you bring people together who want to share ideas, who want to learn. And as I mentioned in my previous episodes, I'm learning all the time, and I want to share what I'm learning. And a big part of what I learned this year at Funnel Hacking Live is, certain talks I listened to really kicked my butt. I accomplished some good things in the last year, but I'm not where I want to be. And many of the talks were aspirational. I'll probably go into some more detail about some specific things I heard, but one of the main things I really realized was last year when I came here in Florida, I came out knowing that I need to start my podcast. And I did that this last year, Beware of Wolf. I got nine episodes in the can, and I'm proud of those. And if you've seen my previous episode, I talk about doing things more rough. This is the first effort towards that. What really kicked me into gear this time was that I need to do it consistently. I'm committing to doing this once a day for a year. And that's 365 episodes, a few minutes each, we talk about something I hope will be of value to you. Something I've been thinking about, something I've learned or learning. And definitely everything I'd like your feedback on too, this is a conversation. So I'll probably ask you to do something in each episode, leave a comment, or something else. I'd love for you to just give me your feedback, and if you like what I have to say please like the episode. If you like where this is going please subscribe, tell friends. I want to build this organically. I'm not gonna use hashtags, I'm not gonna send this to my mailing list, anything like that. I want people to find it organically and see what happens. So yeah, 365 episodes, a few minutes each a day.

One of the things I've been thinking about, obviously, I'm still here in Florida. When do I get started? Oh, I thought, I'll get started once I get home. You know, that's kind of pulling my punches, I'm going to get started now. And I've spent like, the last 30 minutes staring at my screen. I have a lot of bullet points for what I want to say here, but, getting started really is the hardest part. Once I get started, I'm fine.

There's a video, I'll probably leave a link in the description, you can go to YouTube, there's an animated short film I saw as a kid. It's called "Getting Started," published by the Film Order of Canada. It's about a goofy cartoon character who's a pianist and he's trying to get started practicing his piano piece because he's got a recital coming up. And he's quite a good player, you can tell. But because he has no accountability, because he hasn't told anyone what he's doing, because he's working alone, he's fighting with himself more than anything else. And it's very funny but it's also kind of heartbreaking And again, I saw it when I was a little kid, and it's still there on YouTube for you to watch now, so go watch it. And understand that you know, getting started really is the hardest part. And that's what I'm doing here, I'm getting started. This is going up, it will probably have a little bit of editing, I'm having someone else do that for me so I don't have to think about it. But the reason why I'm telling you about this right now is because I think if you choose to do something and you don't choose to have other people hold you accountable for it, like I'm asking you to do right now. Hold me accountable. Unless I'm like, in the hospital or there's a long illness or something, I'm going to be doing this once a day. I might put a few in the can if I'm going a trip or there's a holiday coming up or whatever, and put them out, you can expect one a day. For the next year, until next Funnel Hacking Live.

I'm expecting great things in myself in this next year, and I'm going to tell you a story, and hopefully I'll give you other stuff that you'll find useful too. So, if you like this message, please leave a comment down below about your own issues with procrastination, accountability, getting started. And join me on this journey, I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks.
